56 - Thomas Ricketts (1803 - 1867)
Born in Waltham Abbey, Essex in 1803. Thomas married his second wife Ann GALE in 1824 in Marylebone, and they had eleven children Margaret (1825), Esther (1826), Sarah (1830), Emma (1831), Thomas (1833), Jane (1835), Charles (1837), Elizabeth (1839), Harriet (1840), William (1842) and Harriet (1846). In 1841 the family lived at 99 Broad Wall, Christchurch, Surrey, 1851/61 at 72 Hatfield Street, Christchurch, Surrey and then in 1864 at 3 Sylvan Grove, Old Kent Road, Camberwell, Surrey.
Thomas's occupation was a master bricklayer, employing six men and one boy. Thomas died on the 22nd June 1867 in Camberwell, Surrey, aged 64, of chronic bronchitis, the informant was Sarah Ricketts (daughter-in-law).
28 - Charles Ricketts (1837 - 1918)
Born in 1837. Charles married Lucy GIFFARD on the 14th January 1860 at the parish church in Christchurch, Surrey, the witnesses were Thomas Ricketts, Thomas Giffard and Emma Ricketts. On the marriage certificate Charles gave his address as 72 Hatfield Street, Christchurch, Surrey and Lucy gave her address as 2 Boddys Bridge, Southwark, London. They had seven children Charles (1860), Hannah (1864), Eliza (1869), Frederick (1872?), Rosina (1875), John (1879) and Alfred (1882).
Charles's occupation was a bricklayer.
On the census returns the family lived at; 1861, 73 Roupell Street, Lambeth, Surrey; 1871, 28 Beckway Street, Newington, London; 1881, 10 Temple Street, Southwark, London; 1891, 30 Lemen Street, Southwark, London; 1901, 125 Graveney Road, Bermondsey, London.
On the 1911 census Charles was living in Swaffield Workhouse, Wandsworth, London and his occupation was stated as formally a bricklayer.
Sadly Charles died on the 1st January 1918 at the Union Infirmary, St John's Hill, Battersea, London of cardio-vascular degeneration.
14 - Charles Ricketts (1860 - ?)
Born at 72 Hatfield Street, Christchurch, Surrey on the 7th November 1860. Charles married Clara Margaret MARSH on the 15th Janaury 1883 at St John's church in St Saviour, Surrey, their witnesses were Charles Delverlogan and Mary Ann Bull. On the marriage certificate Charles gave his address as 37 Temple Street, Southwark and Clara gave her address as 9 Boundary Row, London. Clara was a widow previously married to George Skelton in 1879. They had six children Charles (1883), William (1886), Clara (1886), Florence (1889), Walter (1891) and Daisy May (1894-1915).
Charles's occupation was a bricklayer. On the 1891 census the family lived at 9 Boundary Row, Southwark, London and on the 1901 census at 9 Earls Cottages, Bermondsey, London. On the 1911 cesnsus Charles was living with his daughter Florence at 9 Earl Cottages, Bermondsey, London. Charles was a widower, and Florence's occupation was a packer in a cocoa factory.
Charles' son William was a private in the Royal Fusilers London regiment and died whilst serving in the first world war on the 28th March 1918. William is burried with honour in the Orchard Dump cemetery, Arleux-en-Gohelle, France.
7 - Clara Margaret Ricketts (1886 - 1959)
Born at 47 Prices Street, Christchurch, Surrey on the 11th December 1886. On the 1911 census Clara is working as a domestic servant with her sister Daisy May at 9 Southampton Street, Camberwell, London for the Harding family.
Clara married Charles GOODSON on the 26th July 1913 at the register office in Southwark, London, their witnesses were F Ricketts and William Ricketts. The address for both on the marriage certificate was 39 Alfreton Street, London; but prior to marrying Charles, Clara lived at 87 Mina Road, Walworth, London. They had three children Albert Edward (1915), Clara Margaret (Clare) (1918) and Patricia Jean (1932). As a family they lived at Portobello Road, Kensington, London and then 55 Bulstrode Road, Hounslow, Middlesex.
Clara sadly died aged 73, on the 14th December 1959 of myocardical infarcation at 55 Bulstrode Road, Hounslow, Middlesex. She was laid to rest on the 18th December 1959 at South West Middlesex Crematorium, Hanworth, Middlesex.
