42 - John Palmer (1814 - 1890)
Born in Leicester, Leicestershire in approximately 1814. John married Mary Ann GAMBLE on the 11th November 1833 in St Margarets Parish church, Leicester, and their witnesses were John Stringer (church warden) and John Biggs. They had ten children, Thomas (1836), Mary Ann (1838), Samuel (1838), John (1840), Henry (1843), Elizabeth (1845), Harriet (1849), Ann (1850), John (1852) and Emily (1854).

On the 1841 census John was living with his wife and family at Humberstone Road, Leicester, in 1851 at 47 Lee Street, Leicester and in 1861 they were living at Sanvey Gate, Leicester. John's occupation was a malster (brewer of malted beverages e.g. beer). By the 1871 census John and his wife Mary Ann were living with two of the children John and Emily at 95 Sanvy Gate, Leicester in a china shop. John's occupation had changed to a market gardener and Mary's to a china dealer, their son John was a mechanic out of work and daughter Emily a domestic worker. On the 1881 census John and Mary Ann were living alone in the shop at 95 Sanvey Gate, Leicester and John's occupation was simply given as a shopkeeper.

John is also listed in the Pigots Directory of Leicestershire 1835 trading as a malster and retailer of beer at Burbage, Hinckley. In the Trade Directory of Leicester 1870 John is listed as both a green grocer and china dealer at 95 Sanvey Gate, Leicester.

John sadly died in March 1890 in Leicester, Leicestershire.

21 - Elizabeth Palmer (1844 - 1890)
Born on the 27th November 1844 at 51 Lee Street, Leicester, Leicestershire. Elizabeth married William STOKES a china dealer on the 25th December 1862 at St Margarets Church, Leicester, their witnesses were John Palmer and Mary Ann Billings. They had four children William (1863), Henry (1867), Mary (1871) and Annie (1879).

On the 1871 and 1881 census returns Elizabeth was living with her husband William and family in Church Gate, Leicester, Leicestershire.

Prior to the 2nd March 1883 Elizabeth divorced from William due to her adultery and custody of the children was granted to William.

Elizabeth sadly died in March 1890 in Leicester, Leicestershire.
