50 - Jonas Smith (approx. 1789 - 1858)
Baptised on the 19th July 1789 in Tring, Hertfordshire. Jonas married Elizabeth FITKIN on the 25th July 1810 in Tring, Hertfordshire. They had two children which I am currently aware of Jonas and Maria (1812).

On the 1841 census Jonas and his wife are living in Little Tring, Hertfordshire, neighbouring the property their daughter Maria and her family was living in. Jonas' occupation is listed as a painter.

Sadly Jonas died in 1858 in Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire.

25 - Maria Smith (1812 - 1884)

Born in Tring, Hertfordshire in 1812. Maria married William GOODSON a canal pump engine driver on the 16th December 1834. They had eight children Fanny (1835), Martha (1839), Charles (1841), Edmund (1844), John (1846), James (1849), Elizabeth (1851), and William (1854). Maria was a straw plaiter, as were all the children at a young age. Their daughter Fanny married Francis Harrowell whose family lived next door at Canal Side, Little Tring. Martha married John Burr a hairdresser who lived at 5 Akeman Street, Tring. Edmund married Mary Ann Monk and my great grandfather William married Mary Ann Crawley. On the 1841 through to the 1871 census the family lived at 2 Canal Side, Little Tring, Hertfordshire.

As a widow on the 1881 census Maria was living with her niece Elizabeth Smith and grand-daughter Annie Harrowell in Little Tring, Hertfordshire. Maria died in Little Tring, Hertfordshire on the 14th June 1884, aged 72, of chronic bronchitis and exhaustion. The informant was her daughter Martha Burr who lived at 5 Akeman Street, Tring, Hertfordshire.
