Robert Stokes (1660 - ?)
Born in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, in 1660, Robert married Martha LOVATT on the 6th September 1690 in Lapley, Staffordshire. They had five children Robert (1691), Ann (1694), Robert (1696), Martha (1700), and Ellen (1703).

Robert Stokes (1696 - ?)
Born in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, christened on the 1st November 1696. Robert married Ann FROST on the 15th June 1717, and they had seven children Joseph (1718), Robert (1721), Anne (1724), Mary (1727), Thomas (1734), John (1737), and Samuel (1739).

Samuel Stokes (1739 - ?)
Born in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, christened on the 12th March 1739. Samuel married Ann DEGG on the 19th January 1757 in Marchington, Staffordshire, and they had seven children Elizabeth (1757), Samuel (1759), Thomas (1762), John (1765), James (1769), James (1770), and Dorothy (1773).

Thomas Stokes (1762 - ?)
Born in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, christened on the 25th June 1762. Thomas married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) in 1782, and they had five children Samuel (1783), Thomas (1785), Elizabeth (1788), Elizabeth (1789), and John (1791).

40 - John Stokes (1791 - 1877)
Born in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, christened on the 8th April 1791. John married Ann (maiden name unknown) in 1819, and they had nine children Henry (1820), Hannah (1822), Mary Ann (1825), Louisa (1827), Ann (1829), Georgina (1831), Sarah (1831), William (1833) and John (1836).

On the census returns from 1841 through to 1871 John and Ann lived in Short Street, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. In 1841 John's profession was a coal carrier, but then after that stated as a labourer, then in 1862 as a porter.

John sadly died in December 1877 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

20 - William Stokes (1833 - 1919)
Born in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, christened 26th May 1833. William married Elizabeth PALMER on the 25th December 1862 at St Margarets Church, Leicester, their witnesses were John Palmer and Mary Ann Billings. They had four children William (1863), Henry (1867), Mary (1871) and Annie (1879). William's occupation was a dealer in china. It is believed that the family worked on fairground stalls and gave china items away as prizes.

As an unmarried man on the 1861 census William was visiting 37, York Street, London Road, Leicester, Leicestershire. On both the 1871 and 1881 census returns William was living with his wife Elizabeth and family in Church Gate, Leicester, Leicestershire.

Prior to the 2nd March 1883 William was granted a divorce from Elizabeth on the grounds of his wife's adultery. Custody of the children was granted to William.

In the 1891 census William is living with his second wife Sabrina (maiden name unknown) and another child Laura (1875), in Sutton Road, Hilton, Derbyshire. By the 1901 census William was now retired and a widow living on his own in New Road, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

In the 1911 census William was a retired pot dealer living with his wife of six years Edith, at Thatched Lodge, Ringstone, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

William sadly died in March 1919 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

10 - William Stokes (1863 - 1926)
Born at 95 Sanvey Gate, Leicester, Leicestershire on the 3rd April 1863. William partnered Florence Edith BATT and they had seven children Florence Louise (1901), William (1903), Edith Ivy (1905), Ted (1909), Harry, Eddie (1910) and Sid.

It is understood that William was married to a Hazel for two weeks, prior to him meeting Florence, although I am yet to discover a marriage certificate for this, it would make sense why William did not marry Florence.

On the 1881 census as a single man William was at the 27th Brigade Depot Barracks, Glen Parva, Leicestershire as a potter, he was with the Royal Highlanders for 12 years and discharged on the 4th January 1894. William re-enlisted at Aldershot, Hampshire with the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Surrey Regiment on the 26th March 1894. The description given of William on his enlistment papers was height 5 feet 5¾ inches; weight 139 lbs; chest measurement 37 inches; complexion dark; eyes hazel; hair black.

On the 1901 census he was living with his family at 35 Filmer Road, Fulham, London and his occupation was as a horsekeeper/groom at the omnibus yard in Farm Lane, Fulham, for the Road Car Company that was noted for having the finest omnibus yard in Britain. In 1903 William and Florence lived at 4 Northampton Place, Fulham and in 1905 they lived at 5 Heckfield Place, Fulham.

On the 1911 census William and family were living at 164, Estcourt Road, Fulham, and William's occupation was a motor cab washer. In 1914 the family moved to 40, Gloucester Road, Hounslow.

Sadly William died on the 31st June 1926 and is believed to be burried in Heston church.

5 - Edith Ivy Stokes (1905 - 1975)
Born at 20 Heckfield Place, Fulham, London on the 3rd April 1905. Edith married John Hughes DAVIS on the 9th February 1924 at the register office in Brentford, Middlesex, and their witnesses were F E Stokes (Edith's mother) and M A Wells. On the marriage certificate Edith gave her address as 40 Gloucester Road, Hounslow, Middlesex.

John and Edith lived at 2 George Street, Hounslow, Middlesex and had seven children, Lilly, John, Doris, Lenny, Albert, Marie and Robert.

Edith sadly died on the 12th June 1975 at 2 George Street, Hounslow, Middlesex, of thrombotic pulmonary embolism and is laid to rest in Sutton Lane cemetery.
